Hi Susan and Mignon,You both raise an interesting issue. As we've discussed, women tend not to ask for raises and promotions. We think if we do a good job, people (men) will recognize it and reward us. If offered a promotion, then, it's not easy to say "no" because we're so hungry for that form of praise. Well, I agree. But if two years later you compare notes with Joe Tiger, who was hired two years after you were, screwed up and you had to save him countless times, and you find out he's making twice what you are, will you kick yourself? This isn't about instantaneous self esteem, although it feels like it is. It's about long term self respect. If you can bring yourself to ask a few questions, you'll be deciding if it really sounds good based on something besides a long overdue pat on the head. cheers,LauraHe points to the top level of cricket as an example.BILL DELLER: I think the lack of respect shown towards the umpires, the lack of sportsmanship and the lack of good role model behaviour has filtered down through the ranks.ASHLEY HALL: The president of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association Tony Isaacs is someone else who's grown weary of the behaviour of Australia's top cricketers.TONY ISAACS: I also coach junior cricket and I find it distressing that you watch the television and you see audible obscenities all the time on the television so then you go and coach junior kids or seniors play in the afternoon and think that it's just fine to just abuse, either yell out cause they're upset or abuse the opposition's batsman or abuse the umpire if they think that it's the wrong decision and that has to be stamped out of the game.ASHLEY HALL: And that's exactly what the association tried to do by introducing a yellow and red card penalty system to the competition in 2007.TONY ISAACS: You can't just run in and bowl a bad ball and scream out expletives because you're disappointed that you've bowled a bad ball when the lady hanging out the washing in the house next door to the cricket oval hears that.
